ICE COLD RECIPES FROM LYONS COFFEE BAGS

A delicious pick me up, these two vegan milkshake recipes are a refreshing way to welcome in the summer months. Using maca powder adds a light malty flavour that complements the coffee and cacao perfectly, making a filling and nutritious boost to your day.

RECIPE 1: COFFEE BANANA CACAO SHAKE

 Serves: 1
Approx. 10 minutes, plus cooling time

Ingredients:

1 Lyons No.3 Rich & Full-Bodied Coffee Bag
100ml freshly boiled water
300ml almond milk
½ banana
2 tsp cacao powder (unsweetened)
1 tsp maca powder
2-3 tsp agave syrup (or other plant-based sweetener)
 

Method:

  1. Pour the freshly boiled water into a measuring jug, then add the Lyons Coffee Bag and stir.
  2. Leave to cool, gently squashing the bags every now and then.
  3. Remove the bag after 3 – 4 minutes, give it a final squeeze, then discard. Once cooled to room temperature, the coffee can be chilled to use later or used straight away.
  4. Add the cooled coffee and all the remaining ingredients into a blender and whizz for a minute, until everything is blended.
  5. Pour into a glass and sprinkle on a little extra cacao or maca powder before enjoying.

 

RECIPE 2: COFFEE CINNAMON SHAKE

Serves: 1
Approx. 10 minutes, plus cooling time

 

Ingredients:

1 Lyons No.3 Rich & Full-Bodied Coffee Bag
100ml freshly boiled water
4 -5 dates, halved
300ml almond milk
pinch cinnamon
1 tsp milled linseed
2 tsp agave syrup

Method:

  1. Pour the freshly boiled water into a measuring jug, then add the Lyons Coffee Bag and the dates and stir.
  2. Leave to cool, gently squashing the bags every now and then. Remove the bag after 3 – 4 minutes, give it a final squeeze then discard.
  3. Once the coffee is cooled to room temperature, the coffee can be chilled to use later or used straight away.
  4. Add the cooled coffee, dates and all the remaining ingredients into a blender and whizz for a minute, until everything is blended.
  5. Pour into a glass and sprinkle on a little extra linseed before enjoying.

 

Top Tip

* Try swapping the almond milk for your favourite plant based milk.

* For a richer, creamier shake, omit the water and instead infuse the milk with the coffee, by placing 400ml almond milk in a small pan with the coffee bag and heat to a gentle simmer (but do not boil). Turn off the heat and allow to cool, then follow the above recipes.
